Here are my favorite books that were posted in Enerpace’s social media during Get Caught Reading month of May 2022. All of the following books are on Career!
- “Your Brain at Work” – Dr. David Rock utilizes neuroscience to demonstrate how we can stay focused despite all our daily distractions and work smarter every day. The book is an interesting read since it follows a couple – one an entrepreneur and one a corporate executive – through the realistic situations they encounter in an average day. They respond as we most probably would. Applying neuropsychology, the author re-runs each scenario to demonstrate the vastly different outcomes that be can created with a few simple techniques.
- “What Got You Here Won’t Get You There” – Anything by Marshall Goldsmith is worth a read, but this is the one I recommend the most because of it’s straightforward, universally applicable advice. From ‘mentally promote yourself’ to ‘don’t add too much value’, these reminders will enhance your executive presence and make you more successful at your new role.
- “The First 90 Days” – Many folks jump into a new job and start running. They’re missing a great opportunity to be strategic by crafting their first impression, not making changes too soon, and looking for ways to secure early wins. This book will walk you through each stage so that you don’t get in your own way. One of the most important times to enlist an Executive Coach is when transitioning into a new role – even within the same company. We can help with executive onboarding coaching and new leader assimilation programs to be as effective as possible with your new team. You only get 1 chance to make a first impression!
- ”Breaking Through Bias- Communication Techniques for Women to Succeed at Work” – This book is so important I used it as a holiday gift for male and female clients when it was first published! Men need to be aware of the unconscious bias that exists in the fishbowl of life we’re all swimming in too! With humor and grace, the authors identify common areas of bias and provide real-world-tested techniques to address them, while not derailing your career.
- “The 11th Habit” – Andrew Sykes is an expert at how humans can create the behaviors that become the habits we need for high performance. Whether in sales, customer service, healthy living or customer satisfaction, this book goes beyond the “10 Habits of Highly Successful People” to provide approaches that work in every area of our life. We usually know what we “should” do. This book helps us put the practices in place to actually do it!
Enjoy Reading!
