Finally my favorite books on Professional & Personal Development! These are the last of the books posted in Enerpace’s social media during Get Caught Reading month of May 2022. Ever need a good read, just ask me!

  • “Navigating Polarities – Using Both/And Thinking to Lead Transformation”  – Although we live in an “either/or” world, there are many times when reality truly is a “both/and”. For instance, we want our child to be independent AND we want to keep them safe and close to us. The book provides a great framework to manage complexity and change by finding the “better way”. It’s not just about compromising.

  • “Who Moved My Cheese?” – This oldie but goodie is an easy read, using 4 mice to illustrate our most common reactions to change. Our “cheese” can be anything we value in life – a relationship, a job, an event or the ability to go out to eat without worrying about covid! This book helps us to anticipate and adapt to change so we can more quickly find new “cheese”!

  • “Play Your Bigger Game”  –  Our bigger game can be a new job, a new college major, starting a business, moving or traveling alone. If it feels bigger to you, it qualifies! Using a tic tac toe style “playing board”, each square identifies and normalizes the stages in the process. My favorite square is “GULP” – which recognizes we all have those moments! Rick Tamlyn helps us recognize the importance of having Allies, taking a break in your comfort zone as well as bold actions – – they’re all important to our bigger game!

  •  “Whole Brain Living – the Anatomy of Choice & the 4 Characters that Drive Our Life” –  We’re not purely right brain or left brain thinkers. In fact, each hemisphere has both an emotional and thinking component. By being aware of our thinking, and personifying the 4 possible “thinkers”, we can use all parts of ourself to make the best choices. Each add value and using the “brain huddle” technique helps us to harness that value as effectively as possible. Just knowing which one is in charge at the moment has helped me immensely!

  •  “Leadership & Self Deception” –  The book’s central premise is that the key to leadership is who we ARE, not what we do. I already knew that. The life-changing piece for me was all the ways we “put ourselves in the box” through the choices we make, even when our gut/conscience knows they’re wrong. That creates myriad self-justification scripts we run on automatic loops to support our action/inaction. This book held up a mirror and revealed some blind spots I didn’t enjoy seeing. However, it also provides the way OUT!

Enjoy Reading!
